A Spring Update

I have just realized that I haven't updated my blog since mid winter here in Australia and we are now well into spring.

First a picture taken on my phone in my local park where I walk Louis each morning and afternoon.  This was taken at 6.45am on 29 June 2014 just after sunrise.

The sun is just filtering through the tree canopy on the right.
Back in April this year I posted a picture of the San Juan deciduous magnolia in flower in my front garden.  I thought at the time that it was unusual for it to flower in our autumn and it has just flowered again in spring!

It is in full bloom for about four days

Another springtime activity is getting Louis clipped.  A couple of weeks ago I realized that it was becoming difficult to make out which end of Louis was whitch.

Louis asleep in my new chair in my little family room.
Note that my computer table is empty as I can never
sit in this chair.

Last week I got the mobile dog grooming service to bath and clip him.  This what emerged.

He is now on my recliner chair in the lounge and I am
allowed to sit next to him.

I have had a busy winter at Meals on Wheels as there has been a shortage of volunteers due to illness.  Most of the volunteers, like me, are well into their seventies and have problems in our winters.  Actually it has not been a bad winter but the flu has affected a lot of people this year.

I have also been riding with my club on Saturday mornings with the SOFs and also using my other bike for shopping once or twice a week.

The SOFs at a lookout taken in May.  Note the awful weather:)

Our view north.

This is the foremast from HMAS Brisbane. The rest of
it is a couple of kilometres out at sea as a dive wreck.

I have also been giving monthly talks at my computer club so I have been quite busy.

On a more personal note, since Margaret died I have not been out to lunch in Noosa. We would go out most weeks and I suppose visiting those restaurants on my own felt odd.  Well last week I decided to face up to the fact that life moves on and went out to the local RSL for lunch and had a superb meal of Beer Battered Barramundi, salad and chips.  I enjoyed the meal and will try and make a weekly part of my life.

Finally I have decided that as I enjoyed my train journey on The Spirit of the Outback to go on another.  This time I am going on the big one, The Indian Pacific.  On Saturday week (13 Oct) I will take the early morning flight from Brisbane to Sydney and catch the Indian Pacific at Sydney Central Station.  I will spend three days and nights on the train and there are planned excursions in Broken Hill, Adelaide, The Nullabor  and Kalgoorlie before arriving in Perth.  Here I will go on a few trips around the city and send a couple of days down the Margaret River visiting wineries and looking at the spring flowers.  I fly back home on the 29th.

I will take my android tablet with me and, subject to 3G connection, will provide and account of the trip on this blog.
