I Am Still Here.

It has been a long time since I updated this blog which is due to a couple of things.  The main one is that I have had the house in a mess due to replacing the carpets in the hall and all four bedrooms.  I thought that there was enough disruption with the kitchen rebuild but emptying four bedrooms of their clutter, leaving just the beds, really was the limit.

Once again my dining room table was covered with debris.  This time it was books, ornaments and teddy bears.  The garage was filled with three large bookcases, two chest or drawers, two large desks and one small one and several boxes of junk.

This time the tradesmen arrived on time,  stripped out the old carpet, made good the floors and installed the vinyl planks all in one day.  The result is better than I expected with a lovely textured rustic oak plank finish which flows throughout the house.  The vinyl is quite thick and has a soft feel when I walk on it in bare feet and is quite warm to walk on.  It also cost a lot more that the carpet it replaced even using today's prices.

It took me three days to sort out the debris.  I gave many books to the library where they will be sold and the money used for community projects.  Most of the Teddies are in a large plastic bag in the walk in robe except for Margaret's Old Ted which I gave her in 1957. He ran away from home and is now living with Helen is South Australia.  I gave away the small desk and have boxed numerous ornaments.  Finally I manhandled the furniture back into the bedrooms.

The trouble with vinyl is that it is slightly thinner than the tiles which are through out my lounge and kitchen areas and the skirting boards in the hall were set up too high an left a gap between them and the vinyl.  The hall walls were also quite dirty from the dogs rubbing against them and had been scratched while moving furniture.  I decided to redecorate,

First I filled the gap between the vinyl and the skirting board.  Then I washed the hall walls and paint work down and made good the scratches and finally I repainted all the skirting boards and door trims - there are eight doors.  Next I painted the hall walls.  I work for three hours a day on the redecorating and still do at least one a week Meals on Wheels.  I also keep Saturdays clear for cycling.

With the hall finished I havestarted on the kitchen and only have the walls left to do.  I hope to move onto the lounge next week.

Now I am off to MOW for a rest.
