Another New Adventure

In the last couple of weeks both Helen and I have had a few medical events. Mine started with my annual check up.  As a type two diabetic I have a full medical and cognitive check up once  a year.  This requires blood tests, a physical examination and an interview.  Fortunately although type two diabetes is a progressive illness I am still OK to cope with it with diet and exercise and I scored 100% for my cognitive tests.  Last year following my stroke I failed so things are really going well in that area.

Unfortunately I have a chronic ear problem which has required a permanent grommet in my left ear.  I also use hearing aids.  Last week, somehow or other I pushed wax deep into  my left ear completely blocking it.  Now with a a grommet you cant just use wax softeners as they go through the grommet to the inner ear.  My GP referred me to another local practice who had a microscope controlled suction device to remove the wax.  As the Doctor completed the procedure he nudged the grommet and caused the ear drum to bleed.  Next day I had a painful ear infection and was placed on antibiotics.  Yesterday, Wednesday, my GP said that I needed a ENT specialist to sort things out.

This morning I was about to start my new adventure but instead was with the ENT specialist who had inserted the grommet back in 2009.  He cleaned up the ear and advised me that it was not badly damaged.  With more antibiotics it should be OK.  Fortunately it is not painful any more and I was given the go ahead to start my new adventure tomorrow.

The new adventure is called, " A Geriatric Pub Crawl through the Mary Valley".  This is a five day, four night bicycle ride through the local hinterland.  I am staying at traditional old country hotels.  I will ride between 30 and 50Km a day before arriving home next Tuesday.

Helen will to look after Louis and will probably go home later next week.
