We left the apartment at 9.00am to go to the Currumbin Wild Life Sanctuary a few kilometres south of Burleigh Heads . This was going to be a relaxing day.
Well first I got lost and after an half hour detour we finally got there too late to see the first Lorikeet feeding display. Luckily they frequent my garden so it wasn't a big loss.
Next we ran across these fellows just hanging around.
One of the other residents came to visit us.
Quite large group of pelicans gathered to welcome us.
But they were really just interested in food.
About now I realised that I should have charged my new camera's battery over night so I hope Helen has some good photos and videos.
We watched the wild bird display which was very interesting and some how we also got to see a magic show which was probably for the kids but I am in my second childhood so I enjoyed it.
One of the best displays was the snakes ranging from harmless pythons to super venomous King Brown snakes. When my dog walking friend, Betty, and I were out walking a couple of weeks ago we actually had to stop while a 1.5 metre King Brown sunned itself on the path in front of us.
By now we had been at the sanctuary over three hours and were getting tired and hungry so we hitched a lift in the little train which circumnavigates the sanctuary and had lunch at the cafeteria.
I had just enough power left in my camera battery to take this fellow's photo as he joined us for lunch.
After lunch we walked around the sanctuary and saw many kangaroos just lying around. We say several crocodiles, Tasmanian Tigers, wombats and possums. by about 4.00pm we were exhausted and decided to go back to the apartment.
Later in the evening we had our last dinner at the Surf Club before going back to the apartment for an early night.
Next day Helen wasn't feeling to good so we went directly home instead of visiting Brisbane's northern beaches as I had planned. We picked a happy Louis un from the kennels to end out Gold Coast Escape.
