Rail Trail Aventure - Day 4

Day 4

Last night I had dinner at the Yarck Hotel. it was either Angel Flake or Butterfly Flake but anyway it tasted  great.   Of course in true country style the serve was enormous and I had to leave some.  Then it was back to my B&B, 50 metres down the road for a good night's sleep in my huge bed.

This morning I went to the general store for breakfast where I had orange juice,  scrambled eggs on toast and fruit loaf followed by tea served in an elegant tea pot.  Again another big  meal which I ate to make sure that I was properly fueled for the day's ride.   I realize that yesterday I didn't eat enough.

It was a cold morning so I put on my fleecy thermal top and my rainnnnn jacket and woe my full fingered gloves. A I was returning to Yarck today I only had to pack one pannier for the day and set off at 10.00am.  The trail started just across the road and I was soon meeting new friends.  After a while I was too warm and packed the jacket and gloves away and put my mits on.

At about 7Km I came to the trail intersection where I turned left to Alexandra.  The trail went through a small cutting which is the first one i can remember but it was soon followed by  bigger one. As I rode over a little bridge I noticed a lovely little creek but stuffed up the shot with my finger.  As the day was overcast and I could see the screen I had no excuse.

The countryside had become more open with paddocks with cows in them which also meant flies.  They would settle if I rode below 8KPH.

I rolled along quite comfortably and soon began to climb on the way to Alexandra.  At the top of the climb the trail ran close to the road where a steep downhill was indicated.  I turned left through a big cutting and had  a long sweeping descent into town.

Alexandra is quite a big town with a supermarket and I had a club sandwich for lunch.  Iwalked up and down the main street but did not take any photos as I had left my camera with Bluetooth and it had been draining the phone's battery which was down to   25% and I didn't want to lose my method of contact in and emergency.

The  climb out of Alexandra was quite a drag but I was feeling good and only stopped at the top where my bicycle needed a rest.  The it was a lovely ride back back down the trail to Yarck.

My ride distance for the day was 43Km the longest since February this year when i broke my ankle.

In the evening my tour organizer, Mark , and his partner, Jo, took me out for dinner at an hotel following which I gave an interview on why   I rode the trial and my impressions of  my ride to date.
